Redirect Checker
Check redirect chains and identify redirect issues on your website.
What is a Redirect Checker?
A redirect checker shows you the complete redirect chain for a URL, including all intermediate HTTP status codes (301, 302, etc.) and the final destination. This helps identify redirect loops, chains, and unnecessary redirects that can hurt SEO.
Redirect Best Practices
- Use 301 redirects for permanent URL changes (passes link equity)
- Avoid redirect chains —go directly to the final destination
- Never create redirect loops (A —B —A)
- Update internal links to point to the new URL directly
- Keep redirects in place for at least 1 year
FAQ
What's the difference between 301 and 302 redirects?
A 301 redirect is permanent and passes link equity. A 302 is temporary and typically doesn't pass link equity. For SEO, prefer 301 redirects.
How many redirects are too many?
Google recommends minimizing redirect chains. Each redirect adds latency. Ideally, have no more than 1-2 redirects in a chain.
